It all started with the grasshopper yesterday morning. "Hey!" he said, as he greeted me from atop the Mr. Coffee. "Uh, hi," I said. "Did um, did you...are you the one who turned the coffeepot on for me?" "Yeah," he said and chirruped. "I thought it might wake you up, and, I kinda need a favor." "Sure…" I said, wondering if the lack of caffeine was the reason I was talking to a grasshopper. "What can I do for ya?" "We're melting out there." He said, jerking his wing toward the window. "Eight straight days of over 100 degrees. We're nutso. The lizard is packing his stuff!" "Oh, moving to a new town? " I inquired while pouring cream into the coffee. "Worse! Says he's moving to Alaska to become a polar bear!" "Wow, that’s pretty drastic," I agreed, yawning. "So what do you want from me?" "Well for starters, go out and water everything down, please, including that dog. Panting and slobbering everywhere, he's pitiful! And then…." "Yes?" "Get us some rain." I put down my cup. "Beg pardon?" "You know, rain? Stuff falls from the sky, cool and wet? We'd like some please. " "Er, um…me too, but, you know I can't just order it." I waved at the PC. "I know that! I'm a grasshopper, not a brick. I want you to make it." "Um, how do you propose I do that? Prayer? Rain dance? Karaoke?"" "Well any of that would be great.…but wouldn’t it be easier if you just went outside to wash your car?" "BRILLIANT!" I cried. "And, I'll pretend I want to lay in the sun, too, and maybe we'll get a gusher!" "Humans, eesh," he muttered. And so, after escorting Jiminy outside and several more cups of coffee and a call to a friend who is a therapist, I went outside and washed the car...... …..and watched the clouds roll in…… And then reveled in the beauty Of the rain.
So forget about that rumor you heard about a butterfly flapping its wing in some rain forest that causes an eventual hurricane.
It's really a hopped-up-on-java-grasshopper named Jiminy.
Java Jimini...tee hee...I like that Roo! What a cute lil' tale. Wish you could have me over for coffee instead of a grasshopper ;-) Thank goodness for rain (but glad we aren't getting any this week)! We've had more than ever this past month, it's been crazy wet. And you know I need the sun to get some great shots for Vanessa's Mad Tea Party...wooo hoo!
Jamie :)
