'TWaS tHe NiGhT BeFoRe ThE MAD TeA PArTy....

 

 

 'Twas the night before THE Mad Tea Party

And all 'round the web

People were scurrying

with finishing touches, before bed

 

The fur babies' tails wagged as they peered out the front door

hoping to glimpse the Mad Hatter from Roo's tales of yore

(and hoping maybe he'd bring a biscuit or two -

'Cause while tea is nice, for dogs it just won't do!)

(Take two, they're small. Wink, wink) 

 

The cupcakes were ready, waiting for guests in the kitchen

(Though to eat 'em myself I was really itchin'!!)

(Cheers!)

 

 I lamented to my cocktail about my procrastination,

and crazy busy life, with no time for celebration

and mumbling, finally sat down with my PC

to work on a post for the Tea Party.

(Roo's conundrum mug) 

 

When out of my laptop there arose such a clatter~

Caput! Sputter! Fizz!

"Oh no!" I cried, "What's the matter?!?!?!?

"Please don't die now!" I prayed and issued my whiney plea~

"I've got so much to do to get to the Tea Party!"

 (Sad state of affairs~)

 But then..... the PC -- it twinkled!

And a strange "FUN" light kept blinking.......

And I thought to myself, "I really gotta stop drinking."

 

 (The infamous White Rabbit appears with little known side kick, Birdie)

 

And what did my dry red eyes deem to see

Pop out of the screen but a rabbit and birdie!

They said, "Have no fear! Your hope is not gone!

For you've been the power source all along~

All you gotta do is follow your bliss

and you'll find yourself in A Fanciful Twist!"

Says I, "A nice sentiment,

and I appreciate your zeal.

But how do I get there-

Magic carpet? Ferris Wheel?"

 They giggled and said, "Try kayaking, your favorite transport mode!"

"Kayak to the desert?" I asked incredously. "Are ya handing me a load?"

 

(Loki likes his biscuit but wonders if rabbit's foot is tastier...)

 

"No really!" Rabbit squeaked; and then they flitted out the door

leaving dog biscuits and paw prints all over the floor

but, these final words they deemed to impart~

"Remember, celebrate life and always follow your heart!"

 

(It's always sunny in Limey the Kayak) :)

 

 So outside I went and followed moonbeams

which led to Limey the Kayak floating on a magic stream! 

  So I shrugged, and paddled and wondered if the right way I went....

 and then up in the sky I saw another message was sent.

 Soon the stream dried up and I found myself on land... 

and when I saw the sign below I knew the party was close at hand....

   And then, an AHA! moment - happiness is all that matters

not deadlines and gadgets, but laughter, love --and Mad Hatters!

Oh yes I did. I ate Summertime.

 

 

That's right. I did it. I ate summer; every glorious calorie, every drip that didn't successfully slide from my chinny chin chin and down to my shirt. I smacked my lips and enjoyed every delicious cold and creamy bite.

With each lick, the taste of Florida sumertime emerged, and traffic and deadlines and Dreaded Responsibilities faded into a billowy haze.

In my mind's eye, where forever summertime resides, I am running in the sprinkler in the front yard, in my bright orange bathing suit with the sagging yellow flower with petals that flap in time to my skip-hopping. Oh sure, I look mild-mannered, but I'm a super heroine, and I drink anti-kryptonite from the magic garden hose of superpowers, when the kool aid popsicles aren't yet frozen, and save lizards and roly polys from certain death. 

Or, we neighborhood kids play in the grassy field across the street, maybe soccer or kickball or Mother May I-- or Red Light-Green Light if somebody's kid sister is too young to understand the complicated rules of team sports and insisted on tagging along that day. (Harrumph!)

Real lemonade. The smell of fresh mowed grass. The anticipation of hearing the tin-canned music heralding the coming of the ice cream truck. Sticky fingers and dirt, and misquito bites and brightly colored food dyed-tongues.

Red, white and ol' blue snapping high above, furling and unfurling, in the barely-there breeze. Will it rain before the fireworks? Watermelon and cherries pits spit in the bowl. Sparklers.

Beach days and sand in toes. Gulls calling and the smell of tanning lotion and salt. Warm sun, cool water. Waves and castles and summertime songs.

And now, now that we're "grown up" there's this to look forward to:

 It is the prime time for the good things in life, and living with reckless abandon.
